About the Service & How it Works

Bakerly is a baked goods delivery service that brings authentic French baked goods into American households.

Their founders, from Brittany, France, wanted to share their passion for good quality brioche and other pastries with those of us on this side of the globe.

The way Bakerly works is that their products are frozen right after they’re made, then individually wrapped.

This preserves their freshness and eliminates the problem of breakdown during transit as well.

When you place an order, they pull the items from the freezer then ship them dry.

By the time you receive them, they’re defrosted and ready to eat.

This way, you’re receiving their products at the peak of their freshness without any artificial junk, fillers, or preservatives added to keep it fresh like some other brands.

Our Bakerly Experience

Our experience with this Bakerly review was overwhelmingly positive, although we did our breakdown objectively so you can judge it for yourself.

ordering-process

We judged our experience on the following aspects of our order:

  • Ease of ordering
  • Selection of different products available
  • Dietary accommodations
  • Portion flexibility
  • Delivery time frames
  • Price/value
  • Customer service

Let’s take a look at this Bakerly review and see what everyone is raving about.

Easy Ordering with Two Options

The choice of ordering options really enhances the convenience of the service.

You can choose between doing a one-time order or using the ‘auto-bake’ feature (an auto-ship subscription) to receive your items at your choice of intervals.

This is fantastic because not only are you not stuck with one option or the other, but you can even mix & match.

Let’s say you love the crepes and want to get some delivered every 2 weeks. You can set those up on an auto-bake, which gives you an added discount by the way.

Then, let’s say you have a craving for some good French toast this weekend and need a loaf of brioche, but don’t want to wait until your next delivery.

You can order that by itself without affecting your auto-bake order.

It’s really the best of both worlds.

Just Enough Product Selection

People tend to get frustrated and suffer from FOMO when there are too many options to choose from (myself included).

That being said, we still want a healthy assortment of options to choose from, of course.

Bakerly offers a good balance of options without being overwhelming, which I really appreciated when going through the ordering process.

They have 2-4 options for each product, which is pretty perfect.

There are 4 flavors of filled crepes, 2 different types of broiche rolls, 2 types of brioche bread loaves, and a few different types of buns to choose from.

Only 1 choice is offered for the pancakes and croissants, so those make an excellent add-on treat to any/every order.

Then of course they also have 7 different variety packs, which can also be mixed & matched to find your perfect combination of products.

Dietary Accommodations Available?

Since these products are already made before you place your order, there are no customizations available as far as the specific items themselves.

However, it’s easy to view all of the necessary nutritional information for every product, so if you have a dietary accommodation, it’s easy to make an informed decision.

Dietary-Accommodations

You can see the full list of ingredients for every product including a nutrition facts label, allergen information, and specific storage information on every product right on their website.

This information is also printed on all of their packaging.

Different Sized Packages to Choose From

There are a few different options for the size of the package for each product, which makes it easy to mix & match to get exactly what you need.

For example, their crepes come in a bundle of either 4 or 9 packages.

Most products can also be purchased by the case, which is 8 packages.

You can choose variety pack(s) and add on any amounts of other products you’d like, so the entire ordering experience is fully customizable.

How Responsible is Their Packaging?

Bakerly does use a lot of plastic with its packaging, which is not ideal overall in terms of being environmentally friendly, of course.

The thing to remember, though, is that their products are frozen after they’re made, then shipped dry and they defrost in transit.

Plastic packaging is necessary for this process so that nothing gets soggy.

While they did use a lot of plastic for wrapping the individual products, they did use brown kraft paper for padding and separating the products in the boxes instead of plastic bubble wrap.

They are trying to reduce their carbon footprint as much as they can within their business model.

Accurate Delivery Time Frames

Shipping times when you’re ordering something – especially food – are an important part of the purchasing process.

Bakerly definitely delivered with high marks in this area.

Their website quotes processing times of 1-2 business days for processing and 3-5 business days for shipping, which is pretty standard with delivery services in general.

Our order was shipped about a day and a half after we ordered, and then we received it almost exactly 5 days after ordering, which included a weekend.

What about with an auto-bake delivery?

Shipping times are quoted the same with those, although the order will process automatically on the day of your choosing.

You can choose intervals of 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks or months, and you can modify or cancel at any time easily through your account on their website.

Taste & Creativity

Taste & Creativity

Taste is the thing that really sets Bakerly apart from any other baked goods service out there.

Everything and I mean e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g was amazing.

This is what we tried:

  • Filled crepes – all 4 flavors (strawberry, chocolate hazelnut, chocolate hazelnut w/ crispy cereal balls & caramel w/ crispy cereal balls)
  • French pancakes
  • Chocolate croissants
  • Sliced brioche bread
  • Brioche baguettes
  • Brioche hot dog & hamburger buns
  • Brioche dinner rolls
  • Chocolate chip brioche rolls
  • Regular brioche rolls
  • Hand braided brioche bread

All of the brioche products were super soft, fluffy, and buttery.

You can tell at first glance – and first taste – that they’re made with high-quality ingredients and a lot of care.

The crepes are the perfect balance of sweetness, with a hint that isn’t too overpowering.

They’re a great snack for anyone (just ask our toddlers, who absolutely annihilated them!).

The French pancakes are their 2nd-best selling product behind the crepes, and they’re absolutely unbelievable.

It’s the best pancake I’ve ever eaten in my life, honestly.

The texture is absolutely unreal, it’s so fluffy, and the flavor is right on point.

They’re sweet, but not cloyingly sweet, and with a hint of syrup so they’re very easily eaten right out of the package.

The chocolate croissants are also rave-worthy, with soft chocolate filling and seriously flaky brioche pastry surrounding it.

I’ve eaten so many chocolate croissants, especially during college, that I’m basically a self-taught expert on them, and I can tell you this is absolutely the best one I’ve ever tried.

Freshness, Quality & Sustainability of Ingredients

The other part of this that I must mention is their use of real, quality ingredients, which is something I appreciate so much from brands nowadays.

They use whole wheat flour, real milk not from concentrate, natural flavoring components, etc.

The fact that all of their ingredients are also non-GMO is another big selling point for us.

Reasonable Pricing Structure

Their pricing is definitely a high value.

With a 6-pack of crepes ringing in at $3.99, all brioche options (except the baguettes) priced at $4.99 and free shipping for every order over $30, it’s a seriously great deal.

These prices don’t include the additional auto-bake discount, so that would take off an additional 5% from every order to make it an even better deal.

Considering they don’t use cheap, artificial ingredients, these price points are highly impressive.

Our recommendation is that all of their products are worth every penny.

Bakerly Customer Service

Customer service is an important aspect of any delivery service’s review because it really shows how much they value their customers.

We were impressed with Bakerly’s customer service.

They clearly care about their consumers and just want to share good food.

Their FAQ section was easy to navigate, had a variety of important information, and was helpful in answering multiple questions that we had before even placing our order.

They make it easy to pause, change, or cancel your orders right through your account page, which is a huge deal.

Too many companies hide that information in an attempt to force people into sticking around, so the ease of this process really stood out with Bakerly.

Their contact methods include mail, email, or phone support, which a good mix of methods depending on how urgent the issue is.

I would’ve preferred to see a chat option as well, but with the options that they do have available, I’m not sure it’s entirely necessary.

Also noteworthy about their customer service is that their contact information is easy to find!

A ‘Talk to Us’ option is located right on the menu at the top of the page.

The contact information pops up immediately, so you don’t need to scroll through endless options to find it.

This is a big win for customer service because quite often it’s not this easy.

What We Liked About Bakerly

What We Liked About Bakerly

There were a lot of aspects of the Bakerly experience that we liked!

One thing that really stood out is their ‘no-no list’ of ingredients they don’t use.

There are 140 ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors that they never use in any of their products.

As someone who tends to eat clean and feed the same to my family, I really appreciate their real food approach.

Other features that stand out include:

  • The option of doing auto-bake to save 5%
  • All products are non-GMO verified
  • They use wheat flour instead of bleached flour
  • They offer a loyalty program so you can earn discounts every time you order
  • Products individually wrapped, which is super convenient and reduces waste

Another love-worthy note?

They have a recipes section on their website, and it’s full of really great ideas for meals to make using Bakerly products!

What We Didn’t Like About Bakerly

Truthfully, there wasn’t much we didn’t like about Bakerly.

There were 2 things that caused a bit of frustration throughout the ordering process, though, so we’ll mention those here as areas of potential improvement.

First, the process to change something once it’s in the cart was frustrating.

If you decide to change from ordering something one-time to doing the auto-bake, you can’t just change it in the cart.

Instead, you have to delete it and re-add it with the correct option chosen.

The other frustration was the fact that our promo code didn’t work when I chose auto-ship for our variety pack, but I couldn’t figure out why.

There was no explanation given or option to help me fix it, just an error message.

I ended up just switching from the auto-bake to a regular one-time shipment and it corrected itself, so the code must’ve had some restrictions on it.

This is normal, although I wish there would’ve been a bit more guidance there to ease my frustration.
